The ADA Council on Members Insurance and Retirement Programs previously surveyed 15 insurance companies—insuring nearly 104,600 dentists—on malpractice claims reported during the five-year period between 1999-2003.

The council believes the survey findings provide useful information and highlight opportunities to improve the quality of patient care.

This is the second installment of an occasional series about those findings. The May 21, 2007, issue included the first—Tracking Malpractice Stats. Subsequent articles will cover topics including various record-keeping errors and patient communication issues, as well as treatments and adverse outcomes most frequently cited in dental malpractice allegations.
