Forensic Hiring: Take the mystery out of the hiring process!

Did you know...

When conducting employee interviews, you CANNOT:

  • Ask for photo ID until the person has been hired. You can tell them ID will be required if they are hired.
  • Ask them to submit proof of citizenship. You can, however, ask them if they can provide proof of citizenship if they are hired.
  • Make any inquiry about, or take any adverse action (ie, refuse to hire, transfer, promote or terminate) anyone on the basis of any arrest or criminal accusation made against that person which is not then pending against that person and which did not result in a conviction. This is true in the state of Pennsylvania and many others. Make sure you know what your state law says.

Good sample interview questions

Telephone interview:

Describe how you like to be managed, and the best relationship you've had with a previous employer.

Face-to-face interview:

Tell me about a situation in which your manger asked you to do something that you didn't agree with.

--How did you handle the situation?
--What was the outcome?

Tell me about the last time your willingness to share information with a co-worker helped them avoid a costly or embarrassing mistake.

--What information did you share?
--Why did you think it would help?
--How did he/she respond?
--Tell me about another similar situation.

Possible closing question:

If you are the successful applicant, how would you expect to be different after a year in this position.
